Good Afternoon! Thank you. On behalf of all of the faculty and staff at Webster University, both here in Shanghai and around the world, we are very proud to be conferring our MBA degrees upon you today.

女士们，先生们，大家下午好!非常感谢!我谨代表韦伯斯特大学所有教职人员，包括在场的和分散于世界各地的，带着自豪的心情来给各位即将毕业的MBA同学授予学位。

This moment represents the culmination of your hard work. And it signifies you joining a larger community: You not only join more than 2,000 Webster University Shanghai alumni — you join more than 172,000 Webster University alumni worldwide! Congratulations on a job well done and well deserved.

今天，这个激动人心的时刻标志着大家所有辛苦付出得到了回报;从此刻起，你们将加入一个新的团体，一个超过2000名校友组成的上财--韦伯斯特合作项目的校友会;同时，你们也成为了在全球拥有172000名校友的韦伯斯特校友会的成员!祝贺大家，这是你们辛苦付出的回报。

Over the past 19 years, we are grateful for our partnership with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, as this important relationship has helped us deepen our ties with China and reach bright students such as yourselves.

十九年来，韦伯斯特大学和上海财经大学精诚合作，让我校在中国生根发展，并拥有像各位这样的优秀学生。

Webster University is this year celebrating our own milestone, 100 years of existence. 100 years of educating people from all around the world who have studied a variety of disciplines, topics and vocations. Some will inspire and educate the next generation as teachers and mentors. Others will be accomplished artists, musicians or actors who will thrill and entertain us. Others will work in laboratories finding cures, or in businesses designing solutions to problems — the next ‘big thing’ everyone will want to have. They just don’t realize it yet.

韦伯斯特大学将在今年迎来一个历史时刻——我们的100周年校庆。100年来，我们为全球各地的人们提供各学科、课题和职业教育的机会。他们中的一些人将会成为教导下一代的教师或是导师;另一些人将成为艺术家、音乐家或是演员，带给我们艺术的享受。还有些人将在实验室中研究新的药物或是在商业领域探讨解决问题之道—他们并没有意识到，他们是在发现下一个我们所追寻的“大事件”。

History has shown us that YOU, as our alumni here in Shanghai, will likely:

No matter which direction you go, we know that you will be WELL PREPARED.

You had the talent the first day you arrived here. But you’ve honed and developed that talent with the help of your professor and fellow classmates. As a result, you’ve become more capable, confident and comfortable. You’re more reasoned, resourceful and flexible.

With these kinds of skill you have the ability to pick out what’s important to society, consumers, and markets. You can synthesize, conceive and draw conclusion for you, your company, and your country.

Forbes magazine recently quoted Hans Tung, a prominent name in the world of Chinese venture investing, as saying that he loves “working with sharp entrepreneurs who learn quickly and are globally minded.”

He says four of the top 10 Internet companies in the world by market cap are from China (Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu and JD. And this list does not include the fast-growing Xiaomi)

This happened because:

China accounted for almost 1/3 of the 2 billion new internet users between 2005 and now; and Because Chinese Internet entrepreneurs innovated on business models and figured out that a “freemium”(a pricing strategy by which a product or service (typically a digital offering such as software, media, games or web services) is provided free of charge, but money (premium) is charged for proprietary features, functionality, or virtual goods) model, driven by e-commerce transactions and virtual item sales from end-users themselves, and not just relying online ads, were key to monetization.

这是因为：

2005年至今，在全球20亿新互联网用户中，中国用户占到了三分之一，同时，中国的互联网创业者发明了免费增值商业模式——一种在电子产品例如软件、传播、网游和网络服务等领域免费提供商品和服务的价格策略，公司利润将主要来源于专有属性、功能或虚拟商品，通过终端用户的电子商务交易和虚拟商品买卖来实现，而不只是依赖在线广告赚钱。

The globalization of mobile Internet will afford many globally minded teams in China, the U.S., India, Brazil, and Southeast Asia to build great regional and global businesses.

全球化和移动互联网时代将促进中国、美国、印度、巴西和东南亚等地诞生许多具有全球视野的本地乃至全球的杰出商业团队。

In your generation, China has never been better. It’s secure, and has global power and influence. Just having enough food isn’t enough. The market demands the best, most pure and tasty of foods. China is now the largest car market in the world, busiest airports, and a leader in fast trains and subway system. Research, development and business incubators are everyday work from Shanghai to Chengdu to Beijing.

你们生活在中国前所未有的好时代。国富民安，在全球颇具影响力。只是足够的食物是远远不够的。市场需要品质******的、最纯正的、口感******的食物。目前，中国拥有世界******的汽车市场、最繁忙的机场，在高铁和地铁领域也遥遥******。在上海、北京、成都的日常工作就是研发和企业的孵化器。

Your generation is welcomed worldwide. You can easily arrange business or travel around Asia, to the U.S., Europe, and Africa. We of course always welcome you at Webster University, on any continent you find us, but we know that thanks to your MBA and improved English skills you are now equipped to fit in and participate with companies almost any place in the world.

你们这一代在全世界都倍受欢迎。你们可以很容易地飞到亚洲各地、美国、欧洲和非洲去出差或者旅行。当然，韦伯斯特大学也随时欢迎你到我们总校和位于全球各大洲的分校。我们也知道，得益于你们的MBA学位和优秀的英文表达能力，现在你们已做好充分准备去参与公司事务，无论它位于世界的哪个角落。

Chinese people travel almost everywhere. Yet less than two percent of the 100 million Chinese travelers last year went to the U.S. Skillful, and capable – you new graduates can and will go wherever you want to pursue opportunity.

China’s Economic Outlook

As you already know, China is experiencing a challenging time. While China’s economy is the largest in terms of purchasing power, there is a lot of work currently under way in terms of balancing reform and change, sustainability and quality of growth, labor market stability and structural advancements.

如你所知，中国正面临一个巨大挑战。就购买力而言，中国是目前全球******的经济体，目前很多工作正在实施，如：平衡改革与变化;平衡可持续发展和经济增长质量;平衡劳动力市场的稳定和结构性调整。

However, with such important change, comes great opportunity. You are well-equipped to be a key player in effecting important change.

然而，伴随着如此重大改变的，将是大量的挑战。做好充分准备的你们将是这次巨大改变的关键弄潮儿。

With your generation, China has never been better. It is in position to take a significant global leadership role in many areas, from green energy implementation to biochemical and agricultural manufacturing and engineering.

You are a significant part of this.

在你们这一代，中国进入了前所未有的好时代。在很多领域，中国完全有能力成为全球的重要领袖，从绿色能源的实现到生物化学领域，再到农业生产和加工。

此刻，你们就是其中非常重要的一员。

There is no person, organization, business or country that has ever experienced great success or achievement, without first facing and overcoming challenge.

任何一个人、组织、企业或国家，不经历挑战，绝不可能取得巨大的成功或成就。

Just as China has weathered challenges in its thousands of years of history as a culture, so too has Webster University weathered challenges during its 100 years as a university. But we are proud to say nearly one-fifth of that history has been as a partner with Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. SUFE is a part of the first 100 years of Webster development, and we look forward to this partnership for the next 100 years.

中华文明，经历了数千年历史的风吹雨打;同样，韦伯斯特大学也走过了一百年的历程。 值得自豪的是，百年历程的近五分之一，我们一直与上海财经大学精诚合作。可以说，上海财经大学是韦伯斯特大学百年发展历程的重要组成部分，我们更加期待在下一个百年历程两校携手续谱合作篇章。

You represent the start of that next 100 year legacy for Webster University. And you represent the future of your nation.
